Happy UHC Day 2024!

After months of preparation, today we celebrate Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day 2024, a global call to action to ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to the quality health services they need without financial hardship. UHC Day 2024 reminds us that health is a human right, and that investing in equitable, inclusive health systems benefits individuals, communities and economies.

This year’s theme—Health: It’s on the government!—urges world leaders to uphold their commitments to UHC, as promised in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and recent UHC political declarations. With over 4.5 billion people lacking essential health services and 2 billion of them facing financial barriers, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Achieving UHC not only strengthens social equity but also drives economic resilience by creating healthier, more productive societies.

Let’s take this day to advocate for strong, publicly funded health systems and equitable policies that protect everyone, and especially the most vulnerable, from impoverishing health costs. Join the movement by writing to your decision-makers, promoting and participating in UHC Day events, and using the toolkit messages and visuals to advocate for UHC on social media.
