1. Walking the Talk for UHC Day
The 76th World Health Assembly is taking place in Geneva from May 21 - 30. On the 21 May, Health for All advocates gathered at the Place des Nations for the fourth edition of Walk the Talk. Hosted by the World Health Organization, the Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge brought together communities and expressed our commitment to UHC. 2. UHC is Having a Moment: The High-Level Meeting on UHC + UHC Day
This year is critical for universal health coverage (UHC). On 21 September 2023, world leaders will meet at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for a high-level meeting on UHC. The meeting will be a comprehensive review of the implementation of the 2019 Political Declaration, and an opportunity for member states to make new commitments to achieving UHC.
Three months later, on 12 December, we will celebrate the 10th UHC Day! UHC Day 2023 is an important moment to carry the outcomes of the high-level meeting forward and make sure our leaders enact Health For All by 2030.
This work has already begun. On 9 May, the President of the UNGA hosted a Multistakeholder Hearing on UHC to begin the UHC high-level meeting process. During the hearing, many stakeholders supported the UHC Movement’s Action Agenda to inform the political declaration, which will be negotiated by Member States and adopted at the high-level meeting.
Get involved! Use the Action Agenda social media messages from now until September to call on your leaders to make Health For All a reality by 2030. Follow @UHC2030 and @UHC_Day on Twitter for more information!
3. What We’re Reading: The UHC Movement’s article in The Lancet Global Health
“Realising the right to health for all people—UHC is the umbrella to deliver health for all,” is authored by the UHC Movement’s Political Advisory Panel and UHC2030 Steering Committee Co-chairs. With several key meetings on health this year – from the G7 to the UN high-level meeting on UHC – the piece calls for health to be placed on the highest agenda.
4. UHC Day 2023: What to Expect
Universal health coverage (UHC) ensures all people, everywhere, can get the quality health services they need without financial hardship. Every 12 December, advocates worldwide mobilize on UHC Day to call for robust and equitable health systems that leave no one behind.
12.12.23 is the 10th UHC Day celebration!
This year’s UHC Day is vital for the #HealthForAll community. It is the 10th UHC Day celebration – a tremendous accomplishment that wouldn’t be possible without frontline campaigners like you.
